The Housing Petition

Everyone has a right to a safe and affordable place to call home.

A home is much more than four walls and a roof - it provides us with stability, safety, and the opportunity to build the lives we want and deserve.

The federal government has recognized housing as a human right and has launched Canada's National Housing Strategy with a more than $72 billion investment, but there is always more work to be done.

With the help of our community, the Housing Petition was presented to the House of Commons on March 29th, 2023, and received a response from the Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion on May 12th, 2023.

The Housing Petition solidified the right to housing as a fundamental human right, and secured government action continuing to ensure every Canadian has a safe and affordable place to call home through expanding Canada's housing supply and advancing government investments in affordable housing.

The Housing Petition is now closed. Thank you to everyone that helped make the petition a success.
