What is a Petition?
A petition is used to draw attention to an issue of public interest or concern and to request that the House of Commons, the Government of Canada, a Minister or the Crown, or a Member of Parliament takes or refrains from some action.
Petitions can be prepared and processed as printed documents or in electronic format. The House of Commons provide a thorough guide for both options here:

Presenting a Petition:
Petitioners cannot directly present a petition to the House of Commons; only a Member of Parliament is able to do so.
Accordingly, MP Gerretsen will present any petition on behalf of individuals or organizations within the electoral district of Kingston and the Islands, regardless of personal agreement, to ensure that all voices are represented.
