About Mark Gerretsen

Mark Gerretsen was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Kingston and the Islands in 2015 and has since worked hard to grow the local economy, strengthen the middle class, and help families and communities thrive.

Mark previously served as a City Councillor and Mayor of Kingston, overseeing several key initiatives for the region. As MP, he has served on the Standing Committees for Environment and National Defence, and as Chair of the Ontario Liberal Caucus. He currently serves on the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, is a Member of the Board of Internal Economy, and was appointed Chief Government Whip in 2025.

Recognizing that climate change is the most pressing challenge of the 21st century, Mark continues to be a strong voice and advocate for the environment. He remains committed to building a cleaner world for future generations and continues to raise the issue in the House of Commons, at community events, and on his social media platforms.

Born and raised in Kingston, Mark earned a degree in Economics from Queen’s University and studied Computer Engineering at St. Lawrence College. He currently lives in Kingston’s east end with his wife Vanessa and their children Mason, Frankie, and Vivian.
